There are two ways you can attend the 80th Annual Session of American Legion Jersey Boys State:
Self-Sponsored – Apply directly to Boys State through our CampSite portal (without being sponsored by an American Legion Post) then, if accepted, complete registration and pay program tuition. Scholarships may be available if you qualify.
American Legion Post-Sponsored – Local American Legion Posts administer a process, often in coordination with local high schools, to select statesmen to attend ALJBS. Once you’ve been selected, please log into our Campsite portal to complete your registration. If you have been notified by your American Legion Post that you are an “Alternate”, please see our comprehensive guide for more information.

Instructions:
- Create a Family Account
Go to Apply.ALJBS.org and click “Create your account” next to “New Family.”
We’ll collect information like your name, email, address, age, phone number, etc.
| Post-Sponsored Delegates: If you were already selected to attend by an American Legion Post, select “Post-Sponsored” in the Pre-Enrollment section. Complete the questionnaire to finish registration, then skip to Step 3 on this page. | Self-Sponsored Delegates: If you have NOT been selected to attend by an American Legion Post and are applying to attend Boys State, select “Self-Sponsored” in the Pre-Enrollment Section. Then continue to Step 2 on this page. |
- Complete Your Application to Attend ALJBS
Complete your questionnaire. Then, complete a 300- to 500-word essay answering the question, “Why do you want to go to Boys State?” Simply type the essay in the correct box, create a video, or have your school counselor send us a reference.
You will then be asked to submit the $50 application fee, which is non-refundable, and the $325 Self-Sponsored tuition (you will only be charged for the tuition once you are accepted to ALJBS). The $325 tuition includes food, housing, and all delegate supplies (including textbook, lanyards, etc.).
We will evaluate your essay/response, review your application, and send you an email if you’ve been accepted to attend!
- Purchase Extras
There are also some optional fees/costs after you’re accepted to ALJBS. Some you can pre-purchase during online registration! For example:
- College Credit (3 credits for $275, before June 16)
- Extra delegate shirts ($20/shirt, all delegates receive one with tuition payment)
- Family Day tickets ($20/adult, $12/child)
- Complete the Medical Forms
You will receive an email when the medical forms are available.
All of our medical forms are available through our CampSite portal in the “Forms” section of the left-hand navigation bar.
The medical forms include a 3-part Health History Form and a Physician Statement. If a follow-up is needed, a member of ALJBS Medical staff will reach out to you.
