Admissions FAQs

Below we answer some Frequently Asked Questions about the ALJBS Admissions Process:

ALJBS is a week-long program running from Sunday, June 21, through Friday, June 26, 2026. Delegates must stay for the entire duration of the program, unless excused by the Executive Director for legitimate reasons (graduations, etc.). If need to apply for an excused temporary dismissal, please apply through the CampSite Parent Portal.

ALJBS is held at Rider University in Lawrenceville, NJ (about ten minutes away from Trenton).

ALJBS is held the week of Father’s Day each year. This year’s session begins on Sunday, June 21, and runs through Friday, June 26, 2026.

All students must stay on campus throughout the week unless dismissed by the Executive Director. Once you check in on Sunday, you are part of the program for the week.

A day at ALJBS usually runs from about 7:00am through 11:00pm, with speakers, campaigning and voting, sports and recreational activities, and other things throughout the day. You can view an example schedule on our Schedule page.

Young men who are finishing their junior year of high school, and either attend school or live in New Jersey are eligible for ALJBS.

College credit is available through Rider University. Details and cost summaries can be found on our College Credit page.

Our website has lots of information about the program, and you can find photos and videos on our social media accounts @ALJBS.  For additional information, please reach out to our Admissions group via email: admissions@aljbs.org

To attend ALJBS as a self-sponsored delegate, the following costs apply:

  • A $50 non-refundable application fee
  • A $325 tuition fee that includes food, housing, and delegate supplies (including textbook, lanyards, etc.)

Boys State is typically treated as a field trip by schools that are still in session, because it is a college-level seminar, not a typical summer camp. You can earn 3 college credits for attending, so schools tend to treat it as an excused absence. If it’s finals week, students usually take finals before or after attending Boys State. You should talk to your school counselor, as they usually know how Boys State has been treated in the past at your school.
